1.ペットボトルを投げて安全を確認する

KLMオランダ航空でキャビンアテンダントとして勤務するエスターがSNSで公開しているライフハックのひとつが、ベッドの下にペットボトルを投げるというもの。これは、ベッドの下に誰かが侵入し、潜んでいるかもしれないからだ。ベッドの下をのぞき込むことなく、誰も隠れていないことを確認できる。投げたペットボトルが、すぐに反対側に転がってくれば安全をチェックできるだろう。

実際、宿泊客が侵入者に客室で襲われたという話もあるのだとか。そのためエスターは、部屋についたらまずスーツケースを置いて扉を開けたままにしておき、バスルーム、クローゼット、ベッドの下、カーテンの裏などをチェックしているそう。

2.しわがついた服はバスルームに干す

しわがついた服は、バスルームに干したままシャワーを浴びると良い。シャワーの蒸気がしわをのばしてくれるのだそうだ。しわとりスプレーなどを持ち合わせていないときは、この方法が便利かもしれない。

3.ドアに「起こさないでください」のカードを挟む

同じくKLMオランダ航空で働くデミは、ホテルに泊まって外出するときは、ドアノブに「起こさないでください」のカードをかけて、そのカードの一部をドアに挟むようにして扉を閉めておくという。こうすれば、外出から帰ったときに、誰かがドアを開けたり中に入ったりしたかどうかすぐに気づける。

4.ホテルのカードキー以外のカードも使える

最近のホテルは、カードキータイプの電源を採用しているところが多い。カードキーを差し込むと、客室内の電源が入って照明などがつくシステムだ。そんなカードキーは、ホテルで渡されるカードキーではなくても、別の手持ちのカードでも使えるのだとか。もちろん、ホテルによって異なる可能性はあるが、試してみる価値はありそうだ。

5.クリップ付きハンガーでカーテンを閉める

夜寝るとき、カーテンがきちんと閉まらず、外の明かりが差し込んでしまうこともある。そんなときはクリップ付きハンガーを使おう。カーテンとカーテンの端を、ハンガーのクリップで止めて、しっかりカーテンを閉じることができる。

6.USBケーブルを使ってTVから充電する

国によってコンセントの形も流れる電圧も異なるため、海外旅行では変圧器がマストアイテムだ。しかし、もし変圧器を忘れたら、USBケーブルとテレビを使おう。最近のテレビならUSB端子が付いているものが多く、USBケーブルを差し込めばスマホなどの充電が可能だ。

7.金庫に靴の片方を入れる

最後にお勧めなのが、金庫に靴の片方を入れておくこと。これは、チェックアウトのときに、金庫に入れておいた貴重品を忘れないようにするためのハックだ。金庫に靴を入れておけば、外に出るときに金庫を開ける必要があるため、貴重品を忘れずに済む。もし靴を2足以上持っていく場合は、帰りに着るジャケットなどを金庫に入れておいてもいいかもしれない。
